Have you planned for the worst-case scenario?
What if health or family priorities took you away from your solo tax practice in mid-March? What would you tell your clients? Where would you send them for help?
Hopefully everything went well during busy season. What if it had not gone well? What if some personal or medical calamity occurred right in the middle or near the close of the filing season? Do you have staff or business associates that can step into the gap to at least get you through April 15?
The Austin Chapter has developed a program to assist small firms or sole practitioners in the event of such a crisis. The Crisis Assistance Program has been established as a short-term, stop-gap method of assisting members in an emergency or crisis. The Program provides for a team of approved and qualified Austin Chapter CPAs to step in and assist in keeping the practice running and seeing that clients' needs are satisfied during the emergency.
The Program requires participants to agree to maintain a certain level of liability insurance. Participants must provide the Chapter with certain proprietary information needed to determine the level and area of expertise required of the assisting volunteers. Confidentiality of client data will be strictly maintained by the Chapter volunteers. The Program will be monitored at the Chapter level in order to retain the highest and quickest level of assistance required. Volunteers will be members in good standing of the TSCPA and the TSBPA. Volunteers will not be sent in to serve during a crisis unless they possess the experience and expertise to render quick professional assistance.
There will be a small annual administration fee ($50) to be paid to the Chapter for administering the Program. Participants will be required to maintain current client data records from year to year in order to provide any volunteers with current data.
